Video Submission FAQs
How do I submit a video?
Use the video submission form on the MOCO website. This will ask you to fill out details about your video, and about yourself.
You will then be directed to an uploading page, which opens in a new window. Repeat the title of your video in the “subject” line on the upload page. Afterwards, you will receive a confirmation e-mail that we have received your video. Your e-mail address will not be used for any other purposes.
What happens to the video after I’ve submitted it?
Once we have received your video, we will save it on our hard drive to donate to the Mass Observation Archive together with all other contributions at the end of the project.
We will also upload it on the video hosting site VIMEO. This will allow us to show the videos on the MOCO website.
Who can see my video?
Everyone who visits the MOCO website will be able to view your video. The video will also be available for everyone to see on VIMEO, but will not be advertised or added to any groups or channels.
All contributions to the MOCO Project are made available online without restrictions, and this applies also to video contributions.
What is VIMEO?
VIMEO is a video hosting site similar to Youtube. We have chosen to use VIMEO because it is much smaller and more community directed than Youtube. VIMEO have a set of guidelines that makes clear that they don’t accept content for commercial purposes, and also that they only accept original works.
Read more on the VIMEO website. All videos uploaded on VIMEO will be credited as the MOCO Project.
Can I show the video on my own website/group website?
Once the video is published on the MOCO website, you will be able to find the link to the video, or the HTML code if you want to embed it, on the video player. Copy and past this onto your own website, or the website of your community group.
What type of file should my video be?
Ideally we would like you to submit your video as a converted .flv (flash video) file. However, if you are unable to do this, please submit your file in MP4 format and we will happily convert for you. Files can be no larger than 2GB. If you have any problems with file formats/sizes or the uploading process, please get in touch and we will help you!
Who owns the copyright to my video?
Sharing your video with MOCO means that it is open access and anyone can see it. The copyright of the video is shared between you, your community group and the MOCO project. Vimeo’s Community Guidelines give an explicit outline of their copyright policy. If you require further information on the MOCO project’s copyright policy, please refer to our Terms and Conditions.
