This response was written by a 42 year old female.

“Home- well it means first every thing to do with my life here…It means a house of my own with a pleasant view, my family with me or within reach, freedom to do as I like within reason as to comings and goings, furniture, routine-it means having my books by me and knowing that I can put them so where I like without having to clear them away or wonder if they are in someone’s way- it means having a garden and a fence to work in of my own, as that I can do more or less as I like with it, and a ‘settled’ feeling of having some where to come back to, wherever you are. For a socialist I am afraid I mind too much about my possessions- I simply hate to be without my favourite furniture and pictures and so on, for any length of time.

More abstractly, Home means family occasions- Christmasses and birthdays, school holidays…births and- not much death thank goodness- but all the intimate occasions of family life.”
