25 year old male Archaeological Supervisor living in Reading

Question 1. In the current economic climate, what made you decide to undertake an archaeology degree?

I started my degree when the economy was booming! General interest in archaeology and no real idea where else to go

Question 2. Currently, what do you perceive to be the most significant archaeological find that you have made and why is this?

London ware kilns in Woolwich. Type site for an entire med. pottery form the production location of which was previously unknown. Also first site where I ran my own area so biased. Or... Bronze object from Silchester, recently found to be a foot from a grecian/egyptian statue. Awesome detailing of metal work

Question 3. What/ where do you see yourself to be in ten years time?

Probably not in archaeology, change of lifestyle (now have fiancee and own a house) don't soon my previous lifestyle

Question 4. An archaeology student’s degree is multi-disciplinary, sociable and academically challenging. During your time as an archaeology student what has been the most memorable moment within or out of the lecture theatre?

Very hard to define one specific moment, have had a lot of highs and lows. Certainly feel that the social aspect of the job is one of my favorite parts

Question 5. What are you currently doing? (Excavating, working, holidaying etc.)

Supervisor for Oxford archaeology running excavation of a Romano British pottery production site 5miles south of st Albans

Question 6. What are your thoughts and feelings about commercial archaeology?

Good and Bad. Up and down. Seen a lot over the years and have enjoyed a lot of it however there is a lot of bull shit involved and it can be difficult to deal with it sometimes.

Question 7. Has your perception of archaeology on TV changed since you undertook your degree? (E.g. Time team, meet the ancestors, Bonekickers).

Yet again, a lot of bull shit out there! importance of archaeology in the media can not be denied, many of us wouldn't be doing what we do without it.
