On Holiday in Spain
Pictures taken by Theresa, 50 year old Finance Manager from Kent
Pictures were taken in the 6th August 2010.
A relaxing day at a feria (fiesta) in Castilléjar Spain. The holiday is known as Santo Domingo de Guzman, and lasts 4-5 days at the beginning of August.
The whole village turns out to celebrate - it's a holy day, which has started with a church service, a procession of an effigy of the saint round the streets, and then down into the wood for lunch.
Richard and I relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. A wonderful day to unwind, and join everyone else having simple fun.
The band from the nearby town plays music all afternoon. They were enjoying themselves as much as we all did. They even played happy birthday especially for me. (Our friend Camille asked them to play it!)
A huge paella is cooked each year. It tastes and smells gorgeous. They start cooking about midday and we eat about 3pm.
Due to the economic difficulties the town has to charge for this now. But it only costs 3 euros for this large plate full.
A huge treat for us. Nothing to do, and all day to do it in. Bliss!! What more could I want for a 50th birthday present.
