A day in the life of EVP
Written by a 78 year old retired resident of Banbury, Oxfordshire, living in Bungalow with wife Marion.
8.15 am Oh no! its Friday 13th August!! Overslept due to the late night last night with a midnight Skype conversation with Marion. Who is in Minneapolis USA, with family, having just taken 10yr old grandson Jack back after holidaying with us for 10 days. Time difference of 6hrs behind UK. All’s well. Good flight and safely back with family now. Apparently too hot for Marion there – 90 degrees daytime. Now – start the day, cup of Tea first, then shower and get dressed. Pouring with rain!
8.45 am Cornflakes, toast and marmalade, coffee for breakfast. \tCheck emails and world news.
9.20 am Call from Jacqui, Marion’s sister, who would like a lift to supermarket for the weeks shopping.
10.00 am Visit to check 95yr old sister in law, in old peoples Bungalow to make sure all is ok as her daughter Marion is away. No problems as carer has attended to her as usual. Make coffee for us and leave at 11.15.
11.20 am Collect Jacqui and husband Jim from a coffee morning held for benefit of charity group ‘Breathe Easy’, then take to Morrison’s for shopping trip. Help to off load and carry shopping to their flat. Invited to stop for light lunch.
1.00 pm Still raining. To Sainsbury’s for quick shop for myself and fill up with petrol.
2.05 pm Call from long time friend, Bob, who has problem with computer. Arrange evening visit, also check telephone for any messages.
3.00 pm Open mail and scan the ‘Cake’ a local free paper that has just been delivered. Not raining now, so into the garden, no sign of recent visiting Badger thank goodness. Now pick runner beans and then into mini greenhouse to pick a few ripe tomatoes.
3.30 pm Time for an hour to continue modelling turntable for the model railway.
4.10 pm To kitchen to prepare the runner beans for dinner and a cup of tea in front of the TV. Typical boring afternoon programs and fell asleep.
5.05 pm Doorbell rang. Neighbour Tom from 2 doors away who has dementia and wants to know where he lives, having been out for a walk. Took him home.
5.40 pm Start cooking Lancashire Hotpot ( a ready meal from Sainsbury’s for quickness) and the beans.
6.00 pm Eat.
7.00pm Motor to Southam to see Bob. Spend some time sorting out his ‘Face book’ problems.
9.00 pm Bob’s wife Noeline returns from her meeting and we have coffee and biscuits and a general chat.
10.10 pm Leave for home.
10.45 pm Check for any messages on phone and email, then to bed for a 10 minute read and hopefully a good nights sleep. Final thought : Much too busy a day. Must relax and take it easy as I shall need my strength after the weekend to catch up and tick off all the jobs on the list Marion left me to do before she left for the states.
