27 year old female Museum Fundraiser living in South East London

Question 1. Give your reasons and analyse your motives for living in the district where you do live.

It's close to work for both me and my partner. It's also not too far from where our families live (around an hour's drive). As first time buyers it was also affordable. Several of our university friends live in the area. It's quite diverse and there are also a number of good amenities/leisure actvities - bars, cafes, the park, shops etc

Question 2. In what ways do you consider yourself different from your neighbours?

We live in the flat in a Victorian conversion and the other people in our building are very similar - white, middle -class and in their 20s/30s. On the opposite side of the road is a housing estate. There is a marked contrast between the occupants of the Victorian properties and those on the estate, who tend to be BME and I would guess on lower incomes.

Question 3. When you go into pubs, which bar do you use and why?

I'm not sure that this question is still relevant today.

Question 4. What priced seats do you use at the cinema and why?

We always buy standard, never premium. Even as someone with a fairly good income I think going to the cinema has become very expensive over the last ten years or so. We also tend to go to independent cinemas more than big chain ones, although this has more to do with our tastes in film than cost.

Question 5. What forms of food, drink or amusement are thought “infra dig”* or not quite the things in your circles?

Fast food and reality TV are definitely seen as guilty pleasures - McDonalds, Dominos, KFC or Britain's Got Talent, Big Brother, X Factor etc. I think that there's a middle class stigma around anything that might be perceived as unhealthy or bad for you. I feel that there's a sense that the middle classes are always striving for improvement.

Question 6. Are you sensitive on the subject of accent and have you made any attempt to change your own?

No, but I think that's because I have a standard English (some people would probably say posh) accent.

Question 7. Do you make a habit of using the following words and phrases? If not, what is your reaction when they are used by others?

Some - such as bye-bye. I think that quite a lot of them sound old fashioned and outdated now.
